Miches weather and climate

Miches has the typical Caribbean tropical climate of the northeast Dominican Republic: warm year round, dry from December to April, wetter from May to October and exposed to Atlantic hurricane risk in September and October. Average temperature stays between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius all year.

Dry season: December to April

This is the peak travel window. Daytime temperatures sit around 28 to 30 degrees, nights around 22 to 24, humidity is lower and rainfall drops to 30 to 50 mm per month. Skies are clear, the swings at Round Mountain offer perfect photo conditions and the Esmeralda Coast water is at its calmest. Punta Cana hotel prices peak in February and during Easter week.

Green season: May to October

Warmer and more humid, with 100 to 200 mm of rain per month. Showers are short, usually late afternoon, and the mornings stay clear. The countryside turns deep green, beaches are emptier and resort prices drop 20 to 40 percent compared to high season. Round Mountain tours run normally except in heavy rain days.

Hurricane season: June to November (peak September-October)

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November. The northeast Dominican Republic is in the active corridor. Direct hits are rare but tropical storms pass each year. September and October are the highest risk months. Travel insurance is recommended. Tour operators monitor weather and reschedule or refund if a storm threatens.

Best time for Round Mountain

Late January through April is the absolute best for Round Mountain visits, with the clearest skies for the panoramic viewpoint shots. May, June, November and December are still excellent. Avoid the peak of September if you want guaranteed clear photo days. Sunrise tours have less wind, sunset tours have warmer light but more haze.

What to pack year round

Light cotton clothing, swimsuit, hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen and a light rain jacket. Water shoes help at Playa Limon. Bring an extra set of clothes for the swings since you may want to swap for photos. Mosquito repellent is useful at dusk especially in green season.
